From the President, NZILE

We have had three really successful conferences - this one will be no exception.

I urge you all to come to this conference – not only is this an excellent opportunity to catch up with developments in your area of practice and extend your knowledge of other less familiar areas of practice but, with the advent of the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006, we have professional issues to discuss.

During the course of the conference we will follow the fortunes of Harry and Sally. Their story will challenge you to think holistically about the advice clients receive.

In addition to the serious side, we’ll have a bit of fun at the dinner and throughout the conference you will have the chance to catch up with old friends as well as make new ones.

I am really looking forward to this conference – my first as President. Do join me!

Carol Newton

From the President, NZLS

The New Zealand Law Society wishes The New Zealand Institute of Legal Executives all the best for this, its fourth conference.

Legal executives have long shown an interest in education. As I understand it, the legal executive course was set up in 1973 and this was followed not long after, in 1975, by the founding of the Institute to “advance and protect the status of legal executives”. Thus the connection between education and professionalism is well established amongst legal executives. As a direct result, legal executives are playing an increasingly important role in many law firms.

In line with this, I am delighted to have been invited to attend and give an outline, with Alan, of what lies ahead for our two organisations now that the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act is a reality.

I look forward to seeing you at the conference.

Chris Darlow

Case study

Running through the conference will be the fortunes of Harry and Sally. Their story will challenge you to think holistically about the advice clients receive.

Harry and Sally are a couple building a reconstituted family, and their needs include advice on separate and relationship property; family trusts; family homes; investment; conveyancing and property development; and even administration of estates.

The speakers will use Harry and Sally's experience to illustrate how you can make sure that you are proactively meeting all of your client's legal needs, and not just taking at face value a particular issue that they come to you with.

Dinner Entertainment

"I'VE LOST MY KEYS - NOW WHERE'S MY CAR?"

Allie Mooney, Speaker of the Year 2004 and 2005, National Speakers Asociation of NZ (Auckland)

The FBI use it to get inside the criminal mind. Successful people use it to relate better. And now you can, too. We’re talking “personality profiling”– working out what makes people tick … and what makes them respond!

An international corporate speaker and presenter of vast experience, Allie first came to notice for outstanding customer service as Manager of Ansett Golden Wing (Auckland), where her benchmark legendary customer service record came to be immortalised in the “I can’t – I’ve split my trousers!” advertisement (part of a group of TV commercials which are based on true life service experience).

Allie was called on to use her skill in analysing the 10 contestants for Treasure Island and in the choosing of the family for the reality TV series Pioneer House.
